Apple Still Working on AirPower-Like Charger, Also Long-Range Wireless Charging and Reverse Charging

According to Mark Gurman, Apple is still working on a future wireless charger that would function like AirPower.

In the latest edition of the journalist's Power On newsletter, Gurman reiterates earlier reports that Apple still intends to create a wireless charging accessory that would charge multiple devices at the same time.

The AirPower was announced alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone X in September of last year. Apple canceled the project in March after months of rumors.

The MagSafe Duo accessory, which is part of the MagSafe charging system, can be used to charge the Apple Watch and the iPhone in tandem. If Gurman is correct, Apple will release a charging device that can charge up all three products at the same time.

Gurman believes that Apple is still investigating charging solutions that don't rely on contact-based charging technology. He mentions that Apple is working on a future where all of its major devices can charge each other, and that the company "Imagines" a future where all of its major devices can charge each other. "Imagine an iPad charging an Apple device, and then an Apple device charging something else," says Gurman.

We've heard rumors of reverse wireless charging for the recent iPhone series. The closest it has come is with its MagSafe battery pack, which can give power to an Apple device when it's plugged in.

It is technically possible that the MagSafe battery pack can deliver power to the AirPods or the AirPods Pro, but Apple has not yet implemented this feature.
