UK Snooker Championship 2021: Mark Williams falls asleep during Anthony Hamilton defeat

The UK Championship was won by Williams in 1999 and 2002.

Mark Williams fell asleep in his chair after a surprise defeat at the UK Championship.

Williams lost to Anthony Hamilton in the second round.

The two-time UK champion missed two tournaments after contracting Covid-19.

Thirty years as a professional, that's the first time I've ever fallen asleep in a chair.

I was out of it. I didn't have a clue where I was until I woke up.

It was a bit embarrassing, but I was shattered.

I need to be playing in the mornings and afternoons. The more tired I get, the more the day goes on.

I'm one of the lucky ones, because there's a lot worse people that have had Covid than me.

"It's definitely better than what it was a couple of weeks ago so I've just got to keep going, but if I play night matches I'm going to really struggle."

But Trump through.

The Scottish Open is in Llandudno.

Williams joked that he should be able to stay awake for the best of seven game.

Hamilton won three frames in a row before Williams tied it at 5-5, only for Hamilton to benefit from a huge red in the deciding frame.

"You have to take one of the other ways now and again because I have had enough of them in my time," said Williams.
