Kevin Gausman, a former starting pitcher for the San Francisco Giants, has agreed to a five-year, $110 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, according to Jeff Passan.

Jon Morosi reported Tuesday that Toronto was one of the teams pursuing the right-handed pitcher.

The New York Mets offered Gausman a larger contract than the Blue Jays, but it's not clear how much more money was put on the table.

Gausman was named to the All-Star Game for the first time in his career last season. He was the ace of the Giants' pitching staff in his second year in San Francisco.

Gausman had a career year in the 2021 season, going 14-6) with a 2.81 earned run average, 1.04 WHIP, and 227 strikeouts in 192 appearances, all career-best numbers. San Francisco lost both games against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.

Gausman's 4.8 WAR was the best of his career, and it was a big improvement over his 1.6 WAR in 2020.

The Baltimore Orioles drafted Gausman fourth overall in the 2012 draft. He signed a one-year deal with the Giants prior to the 2020 season after spending time with the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves. Gausman signed an offer to stay in San Francisco.

Signing Gausman gives Toronto another top-of- the-rotation starter. Jose Berrios signed a seven-year contract extension.

The reigning American League Cy Young award winner is a free agent.

Gausman could help Toronto improve on its finish of 91-71 in 2022.
