AMC and Sony to Give NFTs to Spider-Man Advance Ticket Buyers

AMC is going to use the internet. The movie theater chain is giving out free tickets to the new Spider-Man movie to people who pre-order their tickets in NFTs.

AMC and Sony Pictures will give away up to 86,000 NFTs to Stubs Premiere, A-list, and AMC Investor Connect members who reserve or purchase an advanced ticket for opening-day showings of Spider-Man: No Way Home. NFTs are digital collectibles that have quickly become the obsession of Silicon Valley bros and mega- brands alike, with some selling for millions of dollars.

You have to purchase or reserve your ticket through AMC's website or mobile app before December 16th to be eligible for the promotion. The recipients will receive a code on December 22 and have until March 1, 2022, to redeem their NFT.

The joint promotion was the first of its kind from a major theatrical exhibitor, according to AMC. The company began leaning heavily into the virtual currency after it and several other retailers were embraced as meme stocks by investors on the r/wallstreetbets forum earlier this year. After the effects of the Pandemic almost pushed AMC to bankruptcy in 2020, retailer investors helped keep the company afloat by sending AMC's stock prices soaring. Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC, announced earlier this year that these shareholders now own more than 80% of the company.

Many good ideas have come in from our shareholders. It is always good to have food for thought. Aron commented on the Spider-Man NFT promotion on Sunday, saying that it was one of his best ideas.
