The school announced Sunday that Duke and coach David Cutcliffe have mutually parted ways.

The Blue Dukes won 77 games over the course of the past 14 seasons, with six bowl appearances and a Coastal Division title.

In the last three years, Duke has gone 3-9 with eight losses to close out the year, and has lost at least one game in three of the last four years. It was the first time in seven years that the Blue Dukes failed to win a game.

Trooper Taylor will be the interim head coach until a new coach is hired.

The athletic director said they were grateful for David's leadership over the past 14 seasons. He lifted our program to unprecedented heights, both on and off the field, while maintaining the core values of the University and we could not be more appreciative of his mentorship of every student-athletes who played for Duke during his tenure. We wish David and Karen and their family all the best going forward, they have been tremendous ambassadors of Duke University and the Durham community.

Duke won its first bowl game since 1961. He was the leader of the Blue Dukes to a final national ranking for the first time in 50 years.

He was the quarterbacks coach at Tennessee and Ole Miss, and he has a good knowledge of them. Daniel Jones was drafted by the New York Giants.

In an interview with the sports network in July, Cutcliffe said he wouldn't be a coach who hung around too long if he couldn't find a way to help the Blue Devil win.

"If I ever feel like I'm a roadblock, nobody's going to have to ask me to leave," Cutcliffe said at the time.

Duke University will always hold a special place in our hearts according to Cutcliffe. Please tell us how much joy you have brought to our lives. Many of our coaches and staff have been with us for a long time. Dick Brodhead was the one who gave me the opportunity to come here. I'm thankful for Kevin White and his leadership. I can't say enough about the faithful alumni and friends that helped us win here. I'm not sure what the future will look like, but I am looking forward to some family time to reflect on the past and see what the future holds.
