According to sources, John Wall met with the team's general manager and coach on Sunday to reiterate his desire to return to the lineup in a feature role.

Sources said that the Rockets want Wall to accept a role on the team that is more suited to his skill set, but he is not willing to do so.

There is still time for discussion and change in this ongoing saga, and the sides will continue to talk as the season progresses. Wall wants to be a starter again, but a role similar to that of Rose on the New York Knicks that includes meaningful minutes off the bench could appeal to him.

Injuries could affect a larger opportunity for Wall at some point in the season, but the team is building around No. 2 overall pick Jalen Green and third-year guard Kevin Porter Jr.

The differences played a part in the preseason decision by Wall and the Rockets to keep him out of the starting lineup, with the hope that a trade would allow him to play elsewhere. The idea of Wall rejoining the lineup was brought up on Friday by Wall, who asked Stone about it, sources said.

Wall has been working out with the team and will need to ramp up his activity over the next two weeks to be ready to play. He played 40 games for the Astros a year ago after being traded for Russell Westbrook. Wall didn't show he could still play at an All-Star level a season ago, despite recovering from an injury.

It's nearly impossible to incorporate Wall into a team because of his player option of $47 million.

The first two games of the season were won by the Rockets.
