Marcus Semien, a veteran infielder, agreed to a seven-year, $175 million contract with the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

A deal was close according to Robert Murray.

Semien's decision to sign with a new team is not a surprise. He was one of the best infielders on the open market.
He was going to sign a big deal in free agency, and he was going to hire the Scott Boras Corporation to represent him.
New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole and Los Angeles Angels third baseman Anthony Rendon were both represented by Scott Boras.

Semien had one of the best seasons of his nine-year career with the BlueJays in 2021, hitting.265/.334/.538 with 45 home runs and 102RBI. He was selected to the All-Star team last season.

The San Francisco native was looking for a long-term deal even before the 2021 season. He bet on himself and signed a one-year, $18 million deal to play second base for the Blue Jays.
The Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners were among the other suitors that Semien had on the open market.
The Rangers pursued Semien in free agency, as they were also looking at Seager and Story.
Kiner-Falefa slashed.270/.312/.358 with eight home runs and 53 runs scored in 2011.
The Rangers haven't made the playoffs in five straight years. The club should turn things around in 2022.
