Off-White Founder, Louis Vuitton Artistic Director Virgil Abloh Dies at Age 41

Abloh was the artistic director of Louis Vuitton.

"We are all shocked by this terrible news," the announcement read. Virgil was a genius designer, a visionary, and a man with a beautiful soul. We are all thinking of his loved ones after the passing of his husband, father, brother or friend, and the LVMH family is joining me in this moment of great sadness.

Abloh directed Off-White to work with Nike and the Jordan Brand. He worked with Nike and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago to improve a basketball court.

Abloh was raised in Illinois and was involved with Nike to create the NikeLab Chicago Re-Creation Center to give back to the community and provide more opportunities for children to participate in sports and other activities.

Abloh was the first Black man to hold the position of Louis Vuitton artistic director, according to the website.

Abloh battled a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma, according to a statement on his death released by his personal account. Since his diagnosis, he chose to keep his battle private.

Abloh is survived by his wife Shannon, their two children, his sister and his parents.
