Suspended forward Evander Kane placed on waivers by San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks placed forward Evander Kane on waivers and plan to send him to the American Hockey League if he isn't claimed by another team.

Kane has been placed on waivers before his 21-game suspension for submitting a fake vaccine card ends, according to Joe Will. Kane was able to play against New Jersey.

If Kane clears waivers, he will report to the San Jose Barracuda on Tuesday. He is not sure when he will be ready to play.

Will said putting Kane on waivers gives the team flexibility before deciding what to do with Kane.

Will said that Kane is fully protected.

Kane is in the middle of a seven-year contract. He was drafted by Atlanta/Winnipeg, and then by Buffalo before joining his third organization.

He had 22 goals and 27 assists in 56 games.

Kane has a number of issues that have hovered around it. The NHL was investigating allegations of domestic assault made by his estranged wife, Anna Kane, in a recent divorce filing. The NHL said that the investigation into allegations of domestic abuse made against Kane by his estranged wife could not be substantiated.

Kane was accused by Anna Kane of trying to influence the outcome of his own games with the Sharks in order to benefit from betting on NHL games. The NHL found no evidence that Kane bet on hockey.

Kane was told not to report to training camp even before he was suspended.
