Decisive early action key to suppressing Omicron variant | Letters

closing our borders buys us a little time to tackle the Omicron variant. What are we going to do with it? Business-as-usual policies will quickly turn into a disaster if they are Dithering with the current laissez-faire herd immunity. The government needs to introduce stringent measures now.

We need green passes for all mass spreader events, mandatory masks for all workers in public spaces, and mandatory vaccinations for all workers.

We must make sure that there is adequate ventilation and mask in all schools and colleges so that we can work from home.

None of these measures should have a significant effect on the economy or everyday life. Doing nothing will have a bigger impact.

The new variant of Kit Yates's article is worrying, but it doesn't change how we tackle Covid. Where is the world's response to the Omicron variant?

The world has advanced in leaps and bounds, but it seems that the virus has remained politically. By this time, the world should have had a plan for this. We knew that new variant would emerge. After we set up the process to look for and identify them, nothing.

The global community can work together to tackle the climate crisis, but they haven't considered the more immediate problem. We still have individual countries running about doing their own thing, if not completely, like headless chickens.
