Madonna hit back at the person who took down the photo of her nipple.
On Thursday, the 63-year-old artist reposted images of herself on her verified account with a heart symbol over her nipples, after they were removed from her account by the photo sharing site.
Madonna is wearing fishnet stockings, red bottom heels, and either a black top or no top. She told her 17 million followers that she finds it "astounding" that our culture allows every inch of a woman's body to be shown except a nipple.
That is the only part of a woman's body that could be sexualized. She wrote that the nipple nourished the baby. Can a mans nipple be considered erotic? And what about a woman's ass which is not restricted?
She gave thanks for her 40 years of being silenced, edited, and degraded.
Madonna wrote in the caption of her photo repost that her photo was taken down without warning. The reason my management doesn't handle my account is because a small portion of my nipple was exposed.
Meta, the company that owns the photo-sharing app, did not respond to a request for comment from the website, but it told CNN in a statement that it takes down content that breaks its rules.
Meta told CNN that the rules are designed to keep everyone safe on the apps while giving space for as much expression as possible.
Just months ago, the rules on public nudity were changed slightly. The company stated that the rules are more nuanced than the "display of nudity or sexual activity" restriction. Nudity depicting breastfeeding or gender confirmation surgery are allowed. If nudity is in an act of protest, it is allowed. This is not a win for the #FreeTheNipple movement, but it is a step in the right direction.
