The quarterback of the future may be Hurts.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Eagles are less likely to pursue a veteran at the position because of Hurts' recent string of strong play.
The Eagles have three wins in their last four games. He had a big performance in the win over the New Orleans Saints, passing for 147 yards and rushing for 69 and three scores.
While Hurts is not a great passer, he has been able to limit his mistakes while the Eagles dominated on the ground.
"Jalen has been consistent and steady," said head coach Nick Sirianni. I think that's what you want out of your quarterback and leader on the football team.
Hurts has taken on a leadership role in the Eagles locker room, which has made him a voice among players. It would be hard to justify the Eagles moving on from him if he continued on this path.
It's possible that Rodgers and/or Wilson will be available, but it's also possible that Watson will be traded. The Packers and Rodgers are in a better place now than they were in the off-season when Rodgers tried to force his way out of Green Bay. It's possible that the team chooses its quarterback over its coach this year, if the power struggle between Wilson and Pete Carroll still exists.
The Eagles may be better off in the long term building up the rest of their roster while hoping that Hurts improves as a passer, because the quarterback class coming up in the 2022 draft is relatively weak.
