One way or another, Jonathan Taylor was going to play in the Colts game.

Taylor was on the short list of candidates that the Buccaneers were considering with the 14th pick in the 2020 draft.

A high-ranking Buccaneers official said in recent weeks that the team would have drafted Taylor at 14 if offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs had been selected before their turn in the first round.

San Francisco traded up to take the offensive tackle who has been a star since joining the Buccaneers.

The selection didn't affect the way that the team felt about Taylor, who enters Sunday's game as the league leader in rushing yards and total touchdown.

"I loved him," Bruce Arians said. He was going to be the force that he is, because he could do it all, and it was just a matter of time.

The Colts traded up to get Taylor, who they drafted at No. 41. During his first two seasons in the NFL, safety Antoine Winfield Jr. has been a star.
