Odell Beckham Jr. had interest in Packers before joining Rams; talks stalled by Green Bay's veterans minimum offer, sources say

The Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers were the two teams that were most appealing to the star wide receiver.

Sources told ESPN that Beckham was interested in playing for the Packers.

One issue that bogged down any contract talks was that the Packers were only offering the veterans minimum plus incentives, according to sources.

According to sources, the Packers were asked to increase their offer to Beckham multiple times. Beckham chose the Rams when Green Bay declined, according to some sources.

One source familiar with the contract talks said that he wasn't going to take the same amount of money to go to Green Bay.

The Rams were thought to be the favorites to land Beckham once they entered the discussions, about 48 hours before Beckham decided to sign with them.

It would have been interesting if the Packers had been more aggressive in their finances. The Packers will have to defend Beckham on Sunday when they host the Rams, instead of preparing a game plan with him.

Beckham will play his second game for the Rams on Sunday, and coach Sean McVay expects him to be more involved in the offense.

Beckham agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Rams four days before he suited up and played 15 of 55 snaps in a Week 10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Beckham caught 2 passes for 18 yards and was targeted on a third pass, but the deep throw from Matthew Stafford was picked off as he broke off the route.

McVay said Friday that ODell is getting more familiar. It's an incredible credit to him that he was able to play in the game against the Niners.
