George Kambosos Jr stunned Teofimo Lopez to become the unified world lightweight champion on a split decision.

He won the titles on the judges' cards.

Kambosos was knocked down in the 10th at the Madison Square Garden while Lopez was knocked down in the first.

Kambosos said he backed himself after he was bloodied and bruised.

Kambosos said he thought he was going to hit him hard and put him down, but the fight changed after that. I'm a great boxer. I can't believe I boxed well.

Lopez had promised a first-round knockout, but it almost came for Kambosos when he caught the champion with an overhand right.

Lopez showed his class in what was an incredibly difficult fight.

Kambosos hit Lopez with a big right hand in the seventh.

The challenger fell to the canvas in the second round and Kambosos came back to win.

Lopez was angry with the result, saying: "I don't care what anyone says, man." I won this fight.

13 months ago in Las Vegas, Lopez dethroned pound-for-pound great Vasiliy Lomachenko to add the WBO and WBA titles to his IBF belt.

He had to pull out of a June fight because of issues with the promoter, and his defence was delayed because of issues with the promoter.

Kambosos has been called out by the American who holds theWBC lightweight belt.
