Indian Tells Starlink to Stop Selling Internet Without License

The Indian government told Starlink to get a license before offering satellite internet services in the country.

India's Department of Telecommunications asked Starlink to stop selling satellite internet services in the country "with immediate effect" until it gets the required licenses to do so. The department advised the public not to buy Starlink internet because it is not a licensee.

The Starlink starter kit includes a stand, power supply, and a wireless device. Users have to pay a monthly fee as well.

The license from the Department of Telecommunications in India is required for satellite based services. The government said in a press release that the company has not obtained a license for rendering satellite based internet services that are being booked on their website. The company has been asked to comply with the Indian regulatory framework for rendering the satellite based communication services and refrain from booking/rendering the satellite internet services in India with immediate effect.
