Spotify Pulls Plug on Car View, Offers Users No Alternative

I apologize, but it is not a bug if you suddenly find that the Car View feature has disappeared. It looks like it hadn't gotten to kill Car View on a major scale until recently, despite the fact that it was announced a month ago.

The disappearance of Car View was spotted by Android Police, which pointed to a post on the community forums of a company that said that the feature would be ending in October. The feature was available on the app for both the iPad and the phone, and there was a simplified version of the interface.

In its October reply to a question from a user who couldn't access Car View, the company's moderator said that it was "exploring a variety of new ways to deliver the best in-car listening experience." People who used Car View hoping for a similar feature or replacement are out of luck.

The car view feature is being retired, the moderator wrote. We want to improve on how our users listen to Spotify while driving, however, this doesn't mean we don't want to. We are exploring a variety of new ways to deliver the best in-car listening experience. It's time to retire car-view in order to make way for new innovations coming down the track.

Three weeks ago, a different moderator replied to a post on the community forums and said, "We're also retiring certain features like our in-car Now Playing View for Android."

The announcement with all the car features would have been simpler.

One of the company's moderators suggested that users use the Google Assistant for hands-free music control. They pointed to a feature on the Maps app that allows users to control the music they play. The solution doesn't help users who were hoping for something with big control buttons like Car View, which is small than in the solution.

Many users commented on the community forum post that they were angry that the company had pulled a feature without offering a replacement first and that the move was a blatant attempt to push Car Thing on consumers, its $80 smart device player designed specifically for cars that's only available for pre-order in The feature was removed to promote unsafe driving.

I agree with what some of the commentators and media outlets have said. I don't understand why Car View couldn't be maintained while it was looking for new and better features. It's rude to take away a feature your users are used to and not give them an alternative. The thumbs down was done by Spotify.
