According to a report, India has told the public not to pre-order Starlink. The company needs to get a license from the Indian government before it can start using its services.

The Government of India has asked the company to comply with Indian regulatory framework for rendering the satellite based communication services and refrain from booking/rendering the satellite internet services in India with immediate effect.

DoT India posted on November 26, 2021.

The Department of Telecommunications in India advised the public not to subscribe to Starlink services. The DoT asked Starlink to stop booking satellite internet services in India. Starlink will have to put its preorders on hold until it gets approval from the Indian government.

The DoT began examining whether Starlink broke any of India's telecom laws when they began scrutinizing the project in April. The DoT stopped the sale of Starlink devices without a license because of the Broadband India Forum, an independent policy forum that represents Big Tech companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Facebook.

Starlink has seen over 5,000 pre-orders in India since it was officially registered in the country. There is no word on whether the existing preorders will be canceled or if customers will have to wait a little longer. 80 percent of Starlink's devices will be located in rural areas.

According to PCMag, Starlink has around 140,000 users in 20 different countries. There will be over 500,000 Starlink customers in the next year, according to Musk.
