Paris Will Use Electric Flying Cars to Get Passengers to the Olympics

The goal is to create at least two flight paths for Olympic passengers during the summer games in the French capital, and Paris will begin testing electric air taxis at a new test site just outside the city.

The Minister of Transport attended the inauguration of the new air mobility testing site at an airfield a few miles northwest of Paris, according to a press release.

Everything is falling into place. All that remains is to make it happen.

The first Olympic route would ferry passengers between the Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Le Bourget airports. About 30 manufacturers answered the call to test out various parts of electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, or e VTOLs, and the infrastructure a safe airport for them would require.

The project includes outfits such as VerticalAerospace Group, and Volocopter. The airfield near Paris has been adapted to include a landing and take-off area.

The airport has tested flights with a drone carrying medical supplies, anti-collision and recharging systems, as well as blood bags and health kits.

In September of this year, it was reported that 65 flying taxi hubs were planned for London and Los Angeles. The first site in England is set to open in 2022.

NASA started flight testing an e VTOL aircraft built by Joby Aviation in September with the hopes of establishing a new form of city-to-city transportation. Joby is testing air taxis in Paris.

Will e VTOLs carry passengers, medical supplies and cargo through airspaces daily? Air taxis may be an eco-friendly mode of transport if they are good enough for the French government and NASA.

This is a car concept.
