Climate politics have used food as a third rail. Climate experts and politicians have been hesitant to tell the public that they should eat less meat because it is unpopular. This was visible at the recent climate conference. Even though the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change had warned in August that all emissions, including methane from agriculture, must be reduced, the world's climate leaders chowed down on decidedly climate-unfriendly burgers and haggis and copped out of committing.
