New COVID-19 variant Omicron: Quarantine, genome sequencing in Mumbai for people arriving from South Africa



The mayor of Mumbai announced on November 27 that passengers arriving at the airport from South Africa will be subject to a quark.

The mayor said that if passengers are found to be positive for COVID-19, they will be done with genome sequencing.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has called a meeting of senior officials at 5:30 pm on November 27 to discuss the new COVID-19 variant.

Every person returning from South Africa will be sent to Mumbai to have their samples analyzed for genetic material.

Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, P K Mishra, Union Health Secretary, and NITI Aayog member (health) Dr V K Paul are among those attending the meeting.
