The New York Mets and All-Star infielder EduardoEscobar reportedly reached an agreement Friday on a two-year, $20 million contract.

The terms of the free-agent signing were reported by the New York Post.

Many MLB players struggled to duplicate their usual production during the shortened 2020 season. He bounced back nicely in the year 2021.

The Mets' infield alignment will depend on how second baseman Robinson Cano does after his return from a season-long suspension for violating MLB's performance-Enhancing drug policy.

It's possible that J.D. Davis could start at third base if the impact player of the past, Robinson Cano, is no longer with the team.

On the flip side, an infield with a productive Cano alongside Escobar, Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso would have a lot of upside.

The Mets have some work to do in the off-season, ideally targeting a power-hitting corner outfielder, some bullpen upgrades and possibly one more starting pitcher.

New York's free-agent efforts will get a boost with the addition of Escobar.
