Sources confirmed to ESPN that SMU coach Sonny Dykes will be the new head coach at TCU.

In four seasons at SMU, Dykes is 30-17 with 25-9 in the past three. SMU's 10-2 record in the season was the first time since 1984 that the program had won 10 games in a season. His winning percentage is the second best in school history behind Collins.

Gary Patterson was the head coach for 21 years and was fired on October 31. He was an offensive analyst for the season at TCU.

According to sources, Lashlee is the front-runner to replace Dykes at SMU, and an agreement could be reached in the next few days. Lashlee was SMU's offensive coordinator in the year that ended.

SMU was rebuilt with a focus on players in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, which could benefit Sonny Dykes in his new job 40 miles away.

The Iron Skillet rivalry has been played 100 times, and the move is certain to add a new twist. SMU won the past two games, including this season, when a player tried to plant a flag on the turf of the Frogs.

This will be the fourth head-coaching job for Dykes. He went 22-15 in three seasons at Louisiana Tech and was the 2011WAC Coach of the Year. He was fired from Cal in 2016 after going 4-7 in his last season.
