While the Detroit Tigers have been linked to Carlos Correa a lot this winter, it appears they are also considering another free-agent.
Jon Morosi of the MLB Network says that the Tigers have had contract talks with the pitcher over the last few days. It's not clear what this means for the club's pursuit.
The relationship between Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch and Carlos Correa is believed to be the reason why the Detroit Tigers are interested in him.
It's not surprising that the Tigers are looking for other options, especially since the possibility that Correa signs somewhere else.
The New York Mets, who he spent the 2021 campaign with, are one of the teams that are interested in him. The veteran will face stiff competition.
The two-time All-Star could sign before the beginning of December, according to SNY's Andy Martino.
He hit.265/.319/.494 with 31 home runs and 87RBI in 138 games last season for the Mets and Cubs. He hit.299/.372/.515 with nine home runs and 22 runs in 47 games after he was traded to the Mets.
Detroit would get a significant upgrade with the addition of Baez. The third worst team in MLB in terms of fWAR at the position was the Tigers.

If the team were to not sign a shortstop this winter, they would have to rely on a combination of Short and Castro. Castro isn't primarily a shortstop.
The team could also consider other players, such as Marcus Semien andCorey Seager.
