A fire at a coal mine in Siberia killed 52 people, including six rescuers, and was believed to have been caused by a methane explosion, according to Tass.

The accident occurred in the mine, and the majority of the people escaped, but four were in a critical condition.

Rescue efforts were halted due to high levels of methane gas and smoke, which officials initially said had 14 bodies found.

35 miners are missing and their location is unknown, according to the governor.
