Tim Paine: Former Australia captain to take immediate break from the game

Tim Paine, the former Australia Test captain, is going to take an immediate break from all forms of cricket after announcing he is to miss the upcoming England series.

In a statement, Cricket Tasmania said that they had been told that he was taking a leave of absence.

The state association will continue to support Tim and his family over the summer.

In November of last year, a co-worker made allegations against him after he sent messages to her.

He said he was "exonerated" by Cricket Australia clearing him of any wrongdoing at the time and Cricket Tasmania not taking any further action.

After learning the texts were going to be made public, he stepped down from his position as Australian cricket captain.

The first Test against England is scheduled to start in December.

Steve Smith was banned for a year for his part in a ball-tampering scandal and attempted cover-up during a series against South Africa in March 2018).

He led Australia in 23 Tests, winning 11, losing eight and drawing four, but under his captaincy, Australia retained the urn in England with a 2-2 draw.

They were beaten at home by India in both the current year and the previous one, with Australia's first Test defeat at the Gabba since 1988 in the latter series.

In the third Test against India in Australia in January, he was fined 15% of his match fee for showing dissent and swearing at the umpire, and he apologized for his behavior.

More to come.
