Arsene Wenger: Mikel Arteta wants ex-Arsenal boss to return to club

Mikel Arteta won the FA Cup twice while he was at the club.

Mikel Arteta has already spoken to the former manager of the club about a possible return.

In 22 years at the helm of the north London side, he won seven FA Cup titles and three Premier League titles.

Arteta was a player for five years at the club.

Arteta said they would be delighted to have him closer.

"I think he would have a great time seeing the environment that he can create around him when he's around this place because of the respect, admiration and the love that everybody at the club has for what he's done, as well as for what he represents as a person."

In December of last year, Arteta replaced Unai Emery as the new manager of the club, 19 months after the end of the previous season.

The club failed to qualify for European competition for the first time in 25 years after Arteta guided the club to FA Cup success in 2019.

Next up for the fifth place team is a game against the bottom side of the table.

When asked if a formal offer had been made to bring the Frenchman back to the club, Arteta said there had been communication.

At the premiere of the documentary, the Spaniard said they had talked about his former boss.

He said that it was nice to chat with him after seeing the film and that he hopes to bring him closer.

Arteta said he couldn't tell what role the Frenchman would take up at the club.

I think it would be a great help for the club if he were to be closer to me.

I think he has to dictate the times. I can say from my side that we would be delighted to have him closer.
