Spotify becomes latest to experiment with a TikTok-style video feed

The new video feed in the app shows fullscreen video clips as the songs are played. Chris Messina posted a video of the feed in action. The video feed can be accessed from a new fourth tab in the navigation bar. Individual tracks can be liked as you scroll through the feed, and there is also a three dot menu icon to bring up options for each song.

The test was confirmed in a statement, but it wasn't clear if or when it would be rolled out. A spokesman said that they conduct a number of tests to improve their user experience. Some of the tests end up paving the way for a broader user experience and others are only important learning. We don't have any new information to share at this time.

The test comes as the company is testing a similar interface in its app to help users discover new content to watch. The Kids Clips feature shows content from its child-friendly shows, and follows the launch of a similar feed earlier this year. Even non- social media platforms are interested in using its format to help users engage with their own services as TikTok engagement hours soar.

Artists can use the Discover feed to have their videos played alongside their music on the service. The videos shown in the Discover feed seem to be the same as those used for Canvas, according to the report.

The discovery of a new test by the service is an interesting sign of how formats are changing. Who knows what will be in fashion next year.
