George McCaskey meets with Chicago Bears, reiterates that Matt Nagy won't be fired after Thanksgiving game, sources say

Bears team chairman George McCaskey told the players on Wednesday that Matt Nagy would not be fired after the game in Detroit, according to sources.

McCaskey's message to the team capped a tumultuous week that began with a report on Patch.com that claimed the Bears had already told Nagy that Thanksgiving's game against the Lions would be his last.

Nagy denied the report on Tuesday, saying "my focus is on these players and Detroit, and that's it." My job as a leader and head coach is to do that. The players have been great. They've been great. You have a quick turn around after a loss like Sunday's to the Baltimore Ravens. The only thing we can do is focus on the present. Thursday is going to be here quickly.

McCaskey was not made available to the media by the Bears.

Outside of the playoffs, the Bears are 3-7 and have lost five straight.

The past three years under Nagy, Chicago has ranked near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories, a theme that has been repeated over and over again.

Nagy was named the National Football League's Coach of the Year two years ago as the Bears reached the playoffs for the first time in eight years.

The Chicago Cubs qualified for the playoffs as a wild-card team last year. Nagy is 0-8 in the playoffs.

McCaskey's meeting was reported by The Athletic.
