The New York Jets' recent trade for backup quarterback Joe Flacco raised questions at the time of the deal, and now that he's on the reserve/concentration, those questions are bigger.

Robert Saleh defended the team's decision to acquire an unvaccinated quarterback for a sixth-round pick, even though Joe Flacco is expected to miss Sunday's game against the Houston Texans.

"I'll stand by this forever: When someone offers a sixth-round pick for a player of Joe's caliber, to me there is no risk," he said. You're playing with money. You can trade back one spot and get the sixth-round pick back in a hurry.

We look at draft capital, but it's an easy decision. He's a proven quarterback, a Super Bowl quarterback, a record holder, a guy who can settle an offense if he needs to, and he did on Sunday. He did a great job against Miami's pressure system. That is worth its weight in gold.

In the Ravens' 24-17 loss to the Dolphins, Flacco passed for , but he was going to be benched this week because of the fact

The Jets will sign Josh Johnson off the practice squad to be their backup because Mike White and Joe Flacco were placed on the COVID-19 list.

White was ruled out for the game after testing positive. He was a close contact and didn't test positive. After his last contact, he must test negative for five days before he can return to the team. He could be cleared on Saturday. He would have been allowed to stay with the team and practice if he had been vaccine free.

One day after Wilson's injury, Flacco had to clear five days of protocols from the Philadelphia Eagles. He didn't have enough time to prepare for the Cincinnati game and the Indianapolis game because of the delay.

The Jets wanted veteran experience behind Wilson so they made the trade for Flacco.

White started three games, but lost the next two. He injured his arm and only played one quarter. It was assumed that he'd start against Miami, but he chose to start Flacco.

Wilson's backup on Sunday would likely be Flacco. It would be in an emergency situation according to Saleh. The number of positive tests could increase during the Thanksgiving holiday. Wilson or Johnson could fly Flacco to Houston on Saturday or Sunday.

He could be there on Sunday. Unless something else happens, we're going to leave that door open.
