New York Mets owner Steve Cohen calls out Steven Matz's agent for 'unprofessional behavior'

Steven Matz's agent was called out by the New York Mets owner for "unprofessional behavior" on Wednesday, one day after the left-handed pitcher decided against rejoining the team.

Cohen said in his post that he was not happy. I've never seen a player's agent act like that. Words and promises don't matter to me.

Cohen told The New York Post that Matz and his agent, Rob Martin, had reached out to the Mets about wanting to return.

I am not happy this morning. I've never seen an agent behave like that. I guess words and promises don't matter.

Steven Cohen is on November 24, 2021.

Sources told ESPN that Matz had agreed to a four-year deal with the Cards. Sources said that he could earn up to $48 million in the deal.

The left-handed pitcher, who was traded from the Mets to the Blue Jays before the 2020 season, went 14-7 with a 3.82 earned run average in 29 starts in the American League East.

Matz was tabbed as one of the team's "unsung heroes" by Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo as Toronto was threatening for a playoff spot.

The Mets drafted Matz in the second round in 2009. He had a 4.35 earned run and 552 strikeouts in 57913 appearances with the team.

Cohen told The New York Post that Matz was a good Met when he was here. I wish him well. This was about the interaction with the agent.
