United Airlines Adds Hot Chocolate Onboard

With all the bad news, how about a cup of hot chocolate?

Ghirardelli Hot Chocolate is added to the United fleet.

United Airlines will be adding powdered hot chocolate from Ghirardelli next month.

During the month of December, hot chocolate will be available in all cabins. If you want it, ask early as United will only board limited quantities. Last year, narrowbody aircraft were given five packets in economy class and five packets in first class while widebody aircraft were given 10 packets in economy class and 10 in premium cabins. United has not specified what year it will be.

In-flight service has changed over the last year. The flight attendants did not make the drink for you. Instead, they offered a cup of hot water and a separate blue plastic cup with a hot chocolate packet and a spoon or stir stick. This tastes better with milk, but United no longer stocks fresh milk onboard, now using shelf-stable mini-packets.

Conclusions.

If I am looking for a warm drink later in the day, hot chocolate is a good substitute for coffee. I recommend you bring your own mug or cup to class, but maybe I am being too picky. Premium cabins will be getting ceramic mugs on December 1st.

Do you enjoy hot chocolate? Will you order some in December?
