The WHO said in a statement that the number of coronaviruses deaths in Europe could jump by half a million by the spring.
The WHO said that 1.5 million people have died from Covid-19 in the region, and the number of deaths reported each day has doubled.
The WHO projected high or extreme stress in 49 of the region's 53 countries between now and March, while hospital beds in 25 countries are expected to face similar pressures.

The key background.

The WHO warned a few weeks ago that Europe was once again the epicenter of the Pandemic and both cases and deaths have been rising there. Many nations in the region, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, are facing dramatic surges and infections are at record-breaking levels. The Netherlands, Slovakia, Austria, Czechia, Germany, and other countries have all hit new highs. Austria reentered a lockdown to control the outbreak, and many governments have considered harsher restrictions to target vaccine holdouts. There were sometimes violent protests against the new restrictions.
Surprising fact.

The country loosened restrictions earlier than most of Europe and was hit by the more infectious alpha and delta variant. The country was left with a high degree of naturally acquired immunity after the earlier wave. The U.K. has a high degree of immunity to the virus.
