The winter of 2019/2020 feels like that moment in a rom-com when the happy couple is bathed in golden light, laughing, smiling, and running around doing cute things.
I loved researching and photographing guidebooks in my hometown of New York City, and it was my favorite pursuit. Every other day, I would discover a new restaurant or boutique, take a hard-hat tour of an about-to-open attraction, or check out old favorites.

The book was supposed to be printed on March 13, 2020, but that didn't happen. Our team could see that the world was changing.

The spring of 2021. It was time to get back to work on New York City Day by Day after the vaccinations.
The job was not easy to take at first. The hotels in the book were not the only ones that went belly-up. Century 21 is a department store, Pegu Club is a cocktail bar, and Sammy's Famous Roumanian is a steak house. It felt like I was drawing a sharp knife on the flesh when I Excising them from the manuscript. It hurt.

I saw that the city was regenerating as I got deeper into the research.

New boutiques have replaced shuttered ones because of lower rents. Some of the bars and restaurants were run by young chefs who had worked in the old establishments. Little Island and SUMMIT One Vanderbilt were exciting new attractions. And more, and more.

New York is vital and vibrant. I've never worked so hard to update a book, but I've never been proud of one.

The hard work paid off. New York City Day by Day is the only contemporary New York City guide currently on the market, and it's a good guide that's up-to-date and honest about both the challenges and rewards of visiting the city.
Along with my reviews, New York City Day by Day includes itineraries and walking tours that will take you to some of the most fascinating parts of the city. Chinatown, Little Italy and SoHo are among the places that include galleries and parks.

New York City Day by Day is the perfect stocking stuffer because it's pocket-sized and is now on bookstore shelves.

Just write a note in your sweetheart's hand and tell them that you're going to travel together to see some of the adventures in the book.

Travel, books, bookstore.

New York City.
