Mozilla is ending support for its Firefox password manager sync app

Last week, a support article was published that stated that the Firefox Lockwise password manager app will end-of-life on December 13th. The final release versions are 1.8.1 and 4.0.3 and will no longer be available to download or install after that date.

Lockbox was a small app that brought a way to access saved passwords and perform autofills to a small but enthusiastic following of Firefox fans. The app was later adapted as a Firefox extension. It seemed like it would stick around for a long time.

The Lockwise app has a login screen that advertises other products from Mozilla.

Users should continue to access passwords using the native Firefox browsers on desktop and mobile, according to the support article. The support site has a note that says the Firefox app will be able to manage passwords systemwide in December. The Lockwise features will eventually be integrated into the Firefox browser apps for all platforms.

It's no surprise that Mozilla is streamlining the projects it keeps on its plate with many layoffs last year. The team building the operating system behind the Firefox phone, as well as shutting down its file transfer tool, were taken down by the company over the years.
