Houston Texans waive veteran RB Phillip Lindsay, source says

A source confirmed to ESPN that the Texans have nixed Phillip Lindsay.

If he is unclaimed by another team, he will become a free agent.

Lindsay ran for 130 yards and a touchdown in 50 attempts for a team that is 31st in Football Outsiders' rush DVOA. Lindsay lost three yards on his only carry in the Texans' 22-13 victory over the TennesseeTitans on Sunday.

Lindsay was one of the veteran running backs signed by the Texans. The Houston Texans traded running back Mark Ingram to the New Orleans Saints last month, leaving running backs David Johnson and Rex Burkhead on the roster. Houston has added a running back.

Lindsay was signed by the Texans in March for $3.25 million with $1 million guaranteed and $500,000 in incentives.

The Denver Broncos had placed a RFA tender on the former Pro Bowl running back, but they did not give the team any compensation if he signed elsewhere.

In his first two seasons with the Broncos, he rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of them. He had 17 touchdown runs.

The news was first reported by a radio station.
