The oldest daughter of Ghostbusters star Harold Ramis is a viewer of the film, and she talked to The Hollywood Reporter about what it had to say about remembering the people we have lost. Egon Spengler, the character who played Ramis in the first two Ghostbusters, died in his attempt to prevent bad ghost stuff from happening, and he appears in Afterlife.
Stiel told The Hollywood Reporter that the film was smart to focus on capturing the Egon character and not necessarily the actor, which is either a reference to the fact that this Egon doesn't speak or that they made a point to make the character look nice. Even though it is still a comedy, the movie about loss and grief has real parallels to real life. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is about how the people we love are always with us. They don't leave.
Stiel initially thought it was weird that the plan for Egon had been approved by all of the children, but she eventually had some say in the development of the character, saying that it was so generous.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is in theaters.
