American Airlines' First Class

I have low standards when it comes to inflight food. American Airlines' current first class meal choices are too far out of line.

American Airlines has first class sandwiches.

I like to take morning flights when I fly American Airlines. When I flew from Dallas to Tampa yesterday, I had the pleasure of eating lunch and dinner for the first time in a long time.

There are a lot of people who have reached out to me about American's current turkey sandwich being served in first class. Someone who isn't in the miles & points world probably spent 10 minutes talking about how bad the sandwich was, without mentioning anything about the airline.

I was excited when I got to try American's first class sandwiches. The flight attendant gave us a choice of sandwich. We took one of them, and they didn't let us down.

The turkey mustard aioli sandwich is the first one we will start with.

It was served with a salad, a potato salad, and a brownie bar. The focus should be on the sandwich. The bread was hard, but I consider myself to be a huge pretzel roll enthusiast. I was surprised it was allowed past security, because it could be a weapon.

It shouldn't matter because what's on the inside counts. Let's take a look at what's on the inside.

I was a vegetarian for a long time, but this sandwich made me want to be one again. Maybe it made me not want to eat again. I don't know which one.

I thought the tray setup here was a little more thoughtful, with some hummus and veggies, flatbread crackers, a salad, and a brownie bar. The pretzel roll was the same as the sandwich.

The cheese was more of a treat than anything else. I could lift the cheese off the bread with a fork.

It was fun to play with and I wouldn't eat it.

The bottom line.

American Airlines has had a lot of highs and lows when it comes to premium cabin catering, but I think the current first class sandwiches are the lowest in the business. I have never seen so much food returned on a plane.

I fly first class for the extra space and the ability to work comfortably. I don't understand why the airline has to serve something this bad. The amount of money the airline is willing to invest in food is not the reason I miss the turkey sandwiches that used to be served in first class.

I wonder what the process is for meals like this getting approved. This is the standard first class Catering. When they create these meals in the test kitchen, do they taste bad? If it is better in the test kitchen, does anyone bother to check the quality when it comes out of the facility? Is this sandwich the only one that I find so bad?

Has anyone else had the pleasure of eating at American Airlines?
