The holiday season is just about to start and the company is quitting social media.
In a press release issued last week, the company said it will be shutting down its Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat accounts on November 26 in all 48 countries where it operates.
The company decided to stop using its accounts because of safety issues on social media.
The company said in its press release that concerns about the serious effects of social media are going largely ignored now that evidence against climate change has been ignored for decades.
I have avoided putting harmful ingredients in my products. Mark Constantine, CEO of Lush, said in a statement that there is now overwhelming evidence that we are being put at risk.
He said it was time to take it out of the mix because he wasn't willing to expose his customers to the harm.
The UK operations of Lush made a similar announcement back in 2019. In 2020 it will return to some of its abandoned social media accounts in response to the Pandemic.
The company said in its statement last week that it was motivated to quit social media once more.
"We don't want to wait for better worldwide regulations or for the platforms to introduce best practice guidelines, while a generation of young people are growing up experiencing serious and lasting harm."
Internal company documents leaked by Haugen on a range of subjects including teen mental health, hate speech, and misinformation prompted renewed scrutiny of Meta, Facebook's rebranded parent company. Lawmakers in the US, the UK, and Europe took testimony from Haugen on how they might better regulate social media companies.
It will keep its accounts active for now.
