New York Giants' Joe Judge points finger at coaching staff after loss to Bucs, mum on Jason Garrett's status as OC

2:07 AM

The players should be blamed more than the coaches. The New York Giants lost 30-10) to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday at Raymond James Stadium.

You can put that down tonight. Got that? The judge said something after the loss. Tonight, you guys can write that. The players have to do their job. That is their job, right? Our job is to teach them. It's their job to execute.

We have to make sure we put them in a good position to succeed. It has to be consistent. You can write that down. I'm not going to debate that.

The Giants got running back Saquon Barkley and Andrew Thomas back from injury and Kenny Golladay was the healthiest he's been in weeks. They had most of their weapons on the field together and still managed only one touchdown, which came when a turnover put the ball at the Tampa Bay 5-yard line.

The second half was not competitive, with Tom Brady taking most of the fourth quarter off.

Judge said that they have to do a better job of scoring points. It sounds obvious and to the point. Right there, I'm going to keep it very blunt. We need to put our players in a better position to make plays. There are too many good players. We have to put them in a better position to take advantage of it. That's all.

He said that he would be frustrated with things as a player.

Golladay, who signed a four-year, $72 million deal this summer, was targeted twice. He had one catch.

The lack of production on the offense has everyone interested in the direction of the unit. Since he joined the team, the Giants have scored 30 points in 26 games.

Judge was asked if he still had faith in his assistant.

I have faith in everyone on our team. Judge said that they would assess everything as a team and make any necessary changes.

That wasn't a big deal. The Giants will play the Eagles on Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Will he remain as the offensive coordinator?

Judge said he was not going to go into it right now.

The quarterbacks were asked if they had full confidence in their offensive coach. They were supportive after their poor performances.

Jones had a touchdown and two picks. He had 56 total yards on 12 touches in his first game back after an ankle injury. He missed four games.

"Yes, I believe in Garrett," said Barkley. It's easy to just leave and everyone wants to blame the coaches. You have to look in the mirror to look yourself in the mirror.

We're not making plays. It is very simple. We have to make plays.

The players say it's on them. The judge says it's on the coaches. It is looking like another playoff-less season for New York. Judge's first year as head coach saw the Giants finish with a 6-10 record. They haven't made the playoffs since 2016 That is the last time they had a winning record.

It's only a matter of time, says the judge.

I'm telling you that we're going to put something on the field that you'll be proud of. It is on my name. "You understand that?" he asked. That is on my name. I lead this team. I am in charge of this team. That is on me. I don't point at anything. I don't make excuses. We're going to get it right.

He blamed himself and his staff on Monday night.
