A man was taken into custody Monday night after attacking a wrestler.

The man, who was a fan of the show, tackled the wrestler during the broadcast at the arena. The attacker and Rollins fought on the ground, until security and referees broke up the fight.

The altercation could be seen on television initially, but the cameras cut away when it was apparent it wasn't part of the script. Many spectators took pictures of the incident and posted them to social media.

The charges against the man are pending and his name will be released once the charges are official.

"WWE takes the safety of its performers very seriously," the company said in a statement. The person who attacked the man has been turned over to the NYPD and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

One of the biggest stars in the company, and a former champion, was walking back to the entrance way after a segment with Finn Balor. The attacker came running at full speed and tackled the wrestler to the ground as he reached the top of the ramp. Once officials contained the attacker, Rollins was able to walk to the back under his own power.
