How long does it take to watch all of the movies? A long time. It takes about two and a half days to complete it, as of Eternals. Adding in the Disney+ series brings the total to 4723 minutes. A busy fan of the comic book company has to commit over three days.
We present: Alternative Marvelthons for every kind of MCU fan, so that they can have some extra fun with the movies and cut down on time. To see the marathons in their entirety, scroll to the bottom.
1. The assembled edit.
Let's get in formation. Credit: Disney.
There was an idea. The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people to see if they could become something more. The movies that led up to the formation of the Avengers are collected in The Assemble Edit.
In the beginning, it is shown that Fury got the idea for the Avengers Initiative in the first place. Even though Captain America is "The First Avenger", Nick doesn't actually recruit him until 2012. By the time the Avenger assembled, Clint andNatasha were already working for Fury, and they started avenging on their own.
Vision and Wanda are introduced to the team. Both characters have a "welcome to the team" moment on-screen, even though Nick doesn't formally recruit them. There is a mini-arc of Iron Man recruiting Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming and in the movie "Infinity War".
The length of the event was 794 minutes.
2. Follow The Tesseract.
That box of trouble, that's all. Credit: Disney.
The space stone hidden inside the Tesseract is the one that has had the most screen time, because it's a part of Vision. In Captain America: The First Avenger, the cube-shaped macguffin was introduced, and the history of the Tesseract's movements is also the history of the MCU.
The Flerken and the Tesseract cube were taken from S.H.I.E.L.D. and put in Norway, before being taken back to Asgard.
The length of the event was 978 minutes.
3. The journey of the widow.
We all know it should have been Clint. Credit: Disney.
The only original Avenger to get a solo movie that was out of chronological order with the rest of the MCU was Black Widow, who died in the movie. If you want to see her kick butt with a marginally better wig situation, you should go back to her undercover introduction in Iron Man 2. Nat was an important part of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and continued to be an Avenger in Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War.
Black Widow takes place right after the Civil War, whenNatasha is on the run and has some unfinished business to attend to in Russia. It answers questions about who got everyone out of the Raft and where Team Cap got their super-plane. As many of these marathons do with the movies, wrap it up as you please.
The length of the event was either 1182 minutes or 19 hours.
4. Give that back.
Give that back. Credit: Disney.
Captain America can do cool things with his shield, but it's made from stolen vibranium, so that doesn't change the fact that it's made from stolen vibranium. Who stole the shield from him? Unclear. We know that people have been trying to get their hands on vibranium for a long time, and the people of Wakanda are not happy about it.
The theme of Give That Back will be the first time that any character in the series gets their hands on stolen vibranium. If you're older, you can make this a drinking game. "Give that back!" you shout when you spot a stolen vibranium.
Since it's the first chronological example of stolen vibranium in the MCU, Cap's shield will count for Captain America: The First Avenger. The shield crops up with Tony Stark in Iron Man 2, which was released many years after The First Avenger. Cap has the shield back for a while after that, but the movie has a bigger chunk of stolen vibranium when the two teams up to create the ultimate body. Vision is counted as a piece of stolen property. More about that later.
Black Panther has a lot of stolen vibranium, but even more not-stolen vibranium, which is a nice change. Vision's corpse in WandaVision is one of the more recent greedy vibranium grabs in the MCU, since we've established that Vision's body counts.
Sam Wilson gets his hands on Cap's shield at the end of the movie, but the true effects of that transaction aren't felt until The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, in which walking trash bag John Walker gets the shield and acts like an absolute maniac with it. This is the reason why people think we can't handle it.
The length of the event was 849 minutes.
5. Team Cap and Team Iron Man are competing.
I can do better if you can do anything, but one of you is basically immortality and the other can fly. Credit: Disney.
The Civil War made fans choose between Team Cap and Team Iron Man. Pick either Captain America or Iron Man and follow their individual stories until Zemo's plan to splinter the Avengers marked the beginning of the end.
Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier are the first two books for Team Cap. We're not going to include The Avenger in this because it doesn't contribute as much to the tension between Steve and Tony. You can watch the first cracks form, see the fault line in Captain America: Civil War, and see how Cap brought it all home in the movies.
Tony's trilogy with Iron Man 1, Iron Man 2, and Iron Man 3 makes his half of the comic book series easy to follow. Tony's issues with heroism and mental health make more sense if Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3 are included. In the movies, you can watch his guilt nearly destroy the world, and then you can see him making it right with the Sokovia accords in Captain America: Civil War. Tony gave his all to bring not only the Avengers, but everyone back in the sequel.
Team Cap has a length of 893 minutes.
Team Iron Man has a length of 1008 hours.
6. The multiverse saga.
Bad Strange, Captain Carter, and Star-Lord T'Challa made a great team. Credit: Disney.
If you prefer a TV binge than a movie marathon, then this is the event for you. It's going to be a huge question going forward how the multiverse works with Phase 4 going all in on it. WandaVision, which was the first red herring in TV history, was the first to get a jump start on the discourse. After that, pay attention to the TVA to get a better understanding of how timelines, variant, and the multiverse intersect.
In alternate universes, there are many different realities that can be imagined. The first live action acknowledgement of the multiverse in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is directly related to how multiple universes are going to work in the MCU.
The length of the event was 1078 minutes.
7. The rogues
Only God-tier villains. Credit: Disney.
When it comes to memorable villains, a lot of the time, they are pretty hit-or-miss, but when they hit, they really hit. The best baddies ever to appear in the franchise were represented in this event.
The OG here is the man who came into his own with the "Kneel" speech in The Avenger, and who had a decent introduction in THOR. Four of the MCU's greatest villains in a row were delivered in the middle of Phase 3, which was the time when no one could topple Loki from his villainous throne.
Tony Leung plays the father of Shang-Chi in the film, and he is a flawless villain.
The length of the event was 700 minutes or more.
8. There is a Cosmic Cluster.
How long has this guy been there? Nobody saw him? Credit: Disney.
Do you know what's cool? There is space. Now that the Eternals are in the mix, where are the movies going to spend more time? There is space. The Cosmic Cluster was entered. All of the movies that take place at least partially off-planet, so everyone can enjoy the cool visuals and have a solid primer on what Xandar is, and so forth, are part of the Marvel movies.
The first chronological human-to-space plot in the MCU can be found in Captain Marvel, though Ego and the Eternals have been around longer. Meet the Skrulls and get a good look at the Accuser, who is in the movie. If you want to see what happens when a civilization is founded on space war crimes, then you should watch the second part of the movie, and then the third part of the movie, as well.
Doctor Strange's powers are still a step above what most other heroes deal with, but he isn't necessarily Cosmic. Finally, watch the Avengers go to space, learn some stuff, and lose some friends along the way in the cap to Phase 4.
Eternals isn't available to stream yet, but when it is, that unbelievably good looking super-team will be the perfect signifier to connect the world of space gods to the realm of MCU humanity.
The length of the event is 968 minutes. Eternals will last 1125 minutes or 18.6 hours.
9. The Spider-Verse is here.
What's going on, danger? Credit: Sony.
There are rumors that Spider-Man: No Way Home will bring together all three live-action versions of the character. We must enter the Spider-Verse to prepare for this.
Since Spider-Man joined the MCU relatively recently, this is the only one with non-MCU movies. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is an animated masterpiece that demonstrates the concept of the Spider-Verse using Miles Morales as its multiversal anchor. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3 are all available once you've got the multiverse down. Willem Dafoe and James Franco will be in this marathon and you should keep an eye on Alfred Molina's Doc Ock.
If Tobey is done, then head over to The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starring Andrew Garfield. There are two more Green Goblins in there (Dane Dehaan and Jamie Foxx).
The introduction to Spider-Man is from Captain America: Civil War. His first solo adventure will be in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Now that you've watched all of the Spider-Man movies, encourage your fellow marathoners to debate who was the best Spider-Man.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is not on any services, but if it does, you can take a detour with Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Pay close attention to the post-credits of both movies and meet us back at the MCU.
Spider-Man is far from home. This is the final stop for the Spider-Verse marathon. You are prepared to go to that theater on December 17 and know what's going on.
The length of the event was 1334 minutes.
Please just the 'thons.
