According to an email sent to all staff at the company in early October, CEO Musk warned that any manager who doesn't execute his directions, state why they think he is wrong, or request further clarification will be asked to resign immediately.
It shouldn't come as much of a shock that Musk is the CEO. The wording of the email invites managers to speak their minds instead of blindly executing his orders, which makes the edict sound far from unreasonable.
There is a settlement.
On the same day that the news came, a jury ordered the company to pay $137 million to a former worker after finding that he had been the victim of racial discrimination.
The settlement was challenged last week by the company, which argued that it should pay $600,000 instead.
Musk told factory floor workers that they were allowed to listen to music on the job, but only with one ear bud for music so the other ear could listen for safety-related issues, according to an email obtained by CNBC.
He wrote in the email that it sounded fine to him.
The rate on the day.
Musk said in the email that if there are other things that you think would improve your day, please let him know. You look forward to coming to work every day, that's what I care about!
The two emails paint a picture of a CEO who is very much involved in the day-to-day operations of his electric car company.
Operations run at a feverish pitch, driving its employees to their limits. The approach seems to be working, and a CEO breathing down the necks of managers is very much part of that equation.
Read the emails that Musk sent to employees about music on the job.
Half of Musk's posts are made on the toilet.
