Scientists Say There May Be “Humans” All Over the Universe

Imagine if future humans can travel to other worlds and find more humans.

That scenario may be more likely than you think, according to one University of Cambridge Astrobiologist.

Simon Morris, an evolutionary palaeobiologist at the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley, told Science Focus magazine that they can say with reasonable confidence that human-like evolution has occurred in other locations around the universe.

The theory of convergent evolution claims that random effects eventually average out so that evolution converges, tending to produce similar organisms in any given environment. The examples of flight have evolved independently on Earth at least four times, in birds, bats, insects and pterosaurs.

Evolution is a law of nature and it is likely that it would operate the same way on different planets as it does here on Earth, according to convergent evolution theory.

Morris is not the only Cambridge man who thinks alien life would have been similar to a human.

Arik Kershenbaum, a zoologist at the rarified British institution, wrote a book about alien evolution.

Kershenbaum told the magazine that the principles that we uncover on Earth should be applicable in the rest of the universe.

Kershenbaum argued that it istempting to see alien races who don't have the same cultural interests as humans, but that they did not fall into a vacuum as advanced technological beings. Kershenbaum said that alien lifeforms would have evolved from a pre-technological species.

If the pre-technological species went on to develop all the things that we have now, chances are that they were built on building blocks that served the social purpose of bonding between group members. A pre-technological alien civilization could be like a pre-technological human civilization, singing and dancing and telling stories.

It is compelling to imagine humanoid lifeforms singing and dancing and telling stories in other worlds. If the laws of evolution are as strong as Kershenbaum and Morris believe, we will be more likely to communicate with aliens and be more willing to fight with them.
