According to the White House press release, the investment from the coronavirus relief package will go to programs that deal with workforce shortages and healthcare disparity.
The initiatives give scholarships and loan repayment funding to students and healthcare professionals in return for service commitments in under-resourced communities.
More than 22,700 doctors, dentists, nurses, and behavioral health professionals are expected to be supported by the new funding.
The White House has invested billions of dollars in other equity-focused projects since the beginning of the Biden-Harris administration, including $785 million in funding for similar pandemic recovery measures.
