The South Carolina women's basketball team solidified its hold on the No. 1 ranking and got its first victory in a 1 vs. 2 game.

The Associated Press poll voting was pushed back a day because of the noon game Monday, so the Gamecocks will remain in the top spot when the rankings come out Tuesday. The rankings were released on Monday, but it was worth waiting for because of the Gamecocks-Huskies game.

"I'm very proud of you," said Dawn Staley. They work hard and believe in each other. We need to get better mentally, because we are separated from good to great teams.

In the second half, the Gamecocks looked great. They held the Huskies to no points in the final five minutes of the game and scored 16 times in the fourth quarter.

Boston led South Carolina with 22 points and 15 rebound. The two guards combined for 32 points, seven assists and eight steals.

"It's time for Aliyah Boston to be the dominant player she is," said the coach.

South Carolina had lost three of its four previous games against the No. 1 team. This was the second victory for the Gamecocks against the Huskies.

The game was close in the first half and the Gamecocks were down 13 points at the break, but they came out in the third quarter and took control of the game.

South Carolina won the battle on the boards. The 19 points by Bueckers came in the second half.
