The Baseball Writers' Association of America has 13 first-time candidates on the ballot, including David Ortiz, Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Howard and Tim Lincecum.

Steroids-tainted stars Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens make their 10th and final appearance on the BBWAA ballot along with Curt Schilling, who fell 16 votes shy of the necessary 75% in last year's balloting. Bonds and Clemens appeared on 61.6% and 71.1% of the ballots, respectively.

The Hall and BBWAA said Monday that new to the ballot are: Mark Teixeira, Carl Crawford, Joe Nathan, A.J. Pierzynski, and Jake Peavy.

Holdovers include Bobby Abreu, Mark Buehrle, Todd Helton, Tim Hudson, and Andruw Jones.

Sosa will be on the ballot for the final time after receiving a 17% last year.

BBWAA members with 10 or more years of membership are eligible to vote. The results will be announced on Jan. 25.

The Golden Days Era and Early Baseball Era committees will meet in December to vote on players who will be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

No one was elected by the BBWAA in last year's vote, and after the vote, Schilling asked the Hall to remove him from the ballot.

He said the game doesn't owe him anything during a live video stream.

Bonds has denied knowingly using performance enhancing drugs. Bonds has been accused of domestic violence, and also of having a relationship with a singer who was 15 when they met.

Rodriguez was suspended for the entire season for violating the drug policy and the 2003 survey testing of players was said to have resulted in the positive test for Ortiz.
