The second-richest person in the world made a $100 million donation to the foundation of the former president. The Bezos Family Foundation gave $166 million to the New York University medical center. Bezos donated $96 million to 32 organizations helping homeless families last week.
The largest gift it has ever received was from Bezos. The foundation said in a press release that Bezos asked to name the plaza at the Obama Presidential Center after civil rights icon John Lewis, and that the donation will honor late-Congressman John Lewis.
John Lewis is a great American leader and a man of extraordinary decency and courage, and I can't think of a more fitting person to honor with this gift than him. I support President and Mrs. Obama in their mission to train and inspire tomorrow's leaders.
The money will be used to expand the scope of programming focusing on leadership, including the foundation's Girls Opportunity Alliance, My Brother's Keeper and Global Leaders Program. The Obama Foundation will get $100 million in cash, not the stock it received last week, according to the communications director.
NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn received $166 million from the Bezos Family Foundation, which was started by Bezos's parents. NYU Langone said in a press release that the donation will be used to address social determinants of health. The Bezos Family foundation has been funded by the Bezos family since 2001, according to tax filings. The most recent IRS filing shows that the Bezos Family Foundation had $88 million in assets at the end of 2019.

Since he stepped down as CEO of Amazon, Bezos has made a number of donations and pledges. Bezos has given away 39,579 shares of Amazon worth about $150 million to nonprofits, but an Amazon spokesman wouldn't say where those shares went.
According to Forbes estimates, Bezos has given away less than 1% of his total net worth, and he hasn't signed the Giving Pledge, a commitment to donate the majority of one's wealth to charitable causes.
