The biggest gains in value and popularity among cryptocurrencies have been led by altcoins this year — here are 5 biggest winners in 2021

The skyrocketing price of the largest cryptocurrencies has captured the attention and funds of institutional and retail investors.
BrokerChooser, an international broker comparison website, said in a report that there are thousands of other coins and token, some of which have enjoyed greater surge in popularity and price than Bitcoin in the last twelve months.

Between September 2020 and September 2021, the company compared interest in the 50 biggest coins in the world with the price in US dollars.

The value of Shiba inu increased by 2.4 million percent over the course of a year. A recent rally moved shiba inu to the 11th spot among the world's most valuable cryptocurrencies, but it has since slipped slightly to 12th place.
Doge coin came in second on the list of price increases.
"After being frequently mentioned by Musk on social media, dogecoin ended up building its own community and taking off in a huge way, particularly after being a light-hearted and fun coin," said BrokerChoose.
In September, the price of Terra, which is also known as LUNA, went up by 6,496%.
Terra's price exploded in January after it raised $25 million in a funding round.
The number of searches for "Shiba Inu coin" increased from 70 to 1.5 million.

Rounding out the top three in popularity terms, the number of polygon searches increased by 100,456%. Matic is designed to scale ethereum chains and develop the infrastructure of the network.

The fourth-biggest price gainer was Polygon. Solana's rise was 2,458% to $111.03. Solana's popularity has been fueled by bets that it will overtake ethereum in the world of smart contracts and by growth in play-to-earn games.
