Spotify Users Growing Impatient and Canceling Subscriptions Over Lack of Native HomePod Support

Several customers are on the verge of canceling their subscriptions and moving to alternative platforms due to the lack of support for the HomePod.

At the 2020 Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple announced that it would be adding third-party music service support to the HomePod. Some of the apps that would take advantage of the new feature were highlighted by Apple a few months later. There was an exclusion from the list.

It is not known if Apple did not ask or if it was the other way around. A feature request was posted to the community forum a few weeks later, requesting that the service add support for the device.

In June of 2020 and more recently, the company said it would implement AirPlay 2 support into its app. It is not native HomePod support that would allow users to play their Spotify content through their HomePod. Users would be able to use their HomePod to listen to music from their favorite streaming service without having to open the app.

One user wrote that the service is showing "childish behavior" and another wrote that it is a joke that they can't offer it. Why does it make it hard to support them?

"This is pathetic," another user wrote. Many users are going to take action if they don't get support for the HomePod before the trial ends. One user wrote, "Why should I pay for a service when other services are more interested in integrations?" Many others said they've moved to Apple Music, with one user writing, "Why should I pay for a service when other services are more interested in integrations?"

How many comments are needed to get the attention of others? More than 100 pages? Being a software engineer myself, I understand that integration shouldn't take that long. It's hard not to conclude that the company decided not to implement it. They haven't said "yes, we're on it."

It doesn't seem like the number of votes on this is important to them.

The idea was labeled a "live idea" by the service but no updates have been provided. Over the last several months, the spokespeople for the company declined to respond to several emails from MacRumors.

There is no explanation for the refusal of Spotify to adopt HomePod support. Apple has been accused of making it harder for other services to compete with Apple Music. When given the chance to join a level playing field with Apple's service, it seems like the service is less interested.

This was a dealbreaker for me because nothing happened and they don't care about the consumer. I got 6 months free with my AirPods, so it was time to leave. You can't complain about not being on the HomePod, and then you don't bother to support it.

The product has slowly grown more mainstream thanks to the smaller $99 HomePod mini which was recently launched in new colors.

Apple is giving new customers a free three-month trial to Apple Music. Six months of Apple Music is free for new customers who own select headphones. If there is new information regarding the support of the HomePod, we will update this article.
